Default BCM reset

A thought from another thread: if someone replaced their own battery and did not know about the BCM reset procedure at the time, can it be done sometime afterward, or is it better to leave it alone if it's not performed at the time of replacement? Any way to set it to a known age instead of brand new?

From a Battery Expert at Ford, he says around 3 weeks, the bms will fully know the battery has been exchanged.

Perfect, thanks. I've read a lot of threads on batteries and battery management and never came across that.

The service manuals from Ford that the dealerships use state that it's "very important" to do the procedure.

That said, you can count on there being numerous Fords out there with replacement batteries that never had the reset and work.

Ah yes, good ole Stormsearch. I remember post 27 from him. Still have the original battery in my 2019. I keep it serviced up using my CTEK periodically. The virtue with maintaining a battery was another point he made in a previous posting.

I have a 2019 5.0 302a. 19,000 miles. a week ago I stopped to get a newspaper. came out and no dash lights at all. thought I did not start. turned key off and started. still no dash lights. drove home. 1/4 mile the lights came back on and the (wrench light) came on in the dash display. cruise did not work. called the dealer and had to wait a week for service. I did not drive it for a week. and I told him. he said powertrain was warrantied. called me back 2 hours later and said it needed a battery?. $300. new and improved battery? POS. I was an auto tech for about 30 years. batteries usually lasted 7 years. I understand the intricacies of the new vehicles. does the (wrench) light come on for a battery? I let it sit for a week and it started and everything worked including cruise. drove to the dealer then.

The age value cannot be set.
This is because for the individual battery, the monitor continuously calculates the (sum total) of the battery condition over the period.
In the sum total is the age, the cells internal conditions, the CCA , Impedance and effects of temperature over the interval.
You would have no way to know what that sum total is even if it cold be changed.
There are enough issues with power now let alone another way to make the mess even larger.
.
Re-set depends on the year and version of the program as to how it may be done..
.Re-sets are to the Module the Sensor >reports data to<, not the sensor at the battery terminal. The Sensor has no memory to be changed.
1. Procedure in vehicle.
2. Done with a Tool.
3. Or let it learn over time.
.
Reference is the Patent Doc describing the full system operation for the battery Sensor, what happens and how.
Believe it, it's not as simple as thought.
