Hello,
New guy here.
I have a 2015 F150 with 3.5L,
lately I have been getting a code PO516 which is a code for battery temperature sensor. I have reset it a few times.
Now where is this thing located?
What is a good place to buy them at? Napa, Canadian tire, Autovalue?
Also I had to replace the battery last fall and I read somewhere that the new battery had to be reprogrammed to the computer system? How does one do this?
Thanks.
This is going to sound odd, but I do not believe your truck has an actual battery temperature sensor. In 2015 only the 2.7L had the Auto-Start-Stop feature. Non Auto-Start-Stop vehicles use a Type-1 Hall Effect Current Sensor which slips over the negative battery cable and only measures current in and out of the battery. Battery voltage is measured remotely in the BCM and battery temperature is inferred from other vehicle sensors. Something within the BMS (Battery Management System) is causing this error. The BMS is an integral part of the BCM (Body Control Module). I can only speculate that this may be a result of not resetting the BMS after your battery replacement.
There is a lot of controversy over the need to reset the BMS after battery replacement, and all I can do is quote this from the Workshop Manual:
If the vehicle battery is replaced, it is very important to perform the BMS Reset using a diagnostic scan tool. If the battery monitoring system reset is not carried out, it holds the old battery parameters and time in service counter in memory. Additionally it tells the system the battery is in an aged state and may limit the Electrical Energy Management system functions.
A BMS reset can be performed by many diagnostic scan tools (not just simple readers) or FORScan.
Vehicles with A-S-S use a Type-2 Battery Monitor Sensor. This sensor mounts directly to the battery negative terminal and is powered from the battery positive terminal. It measures current, voltage, and temperature of the battery and has a microprocessor that is capable of highly accurate calculations of battery state variables that are sent to the BCM via LIN communication line.
