My truck is a 2015 and I just replaced the original AGM battery this past spring. Got over 9 years out of it. The truck still started but the low reserve capacity caused an electrical issue with the electronic parking brake. I replaced it with a Motorcraft H7 AGM which is made by Clarios.

2019, 65k, my battery is starting to act funky. Truck will try to start, but won’t turn over, happens occasionally. Sunday, it did it, I hit the button and it started, but the offroad lights came on (diff, crawl control/hill decent, I suppose that’s what were. Turned it off, turn it on and got a quick battery message. Am going to have it tested.

Hot here and it sits outside.

I should join into the charger idea, I can drive less than 5mi a day, often.

CTEK charger has worked great for me. I put the quick connector thru the grill so I don't have to pop the hood to connect/disconnect it. A few of us around here are happy with the CTEK.

A simple rule of thumb is, "If A.S.S. is working, your battery is fine."

I have no clue what A.S.S. stands for.

No kidding? Mine stopped working. I had the trailer light connector unplugged to disable A.S.S. I plugged it back in when I took it to the dealer for the VCT solenoid issues, A.S.S. hasn't worked since. (The black connector is still plugged in.)

The A.S.S. disable light (on the gauge cluster) will come on sometimes when I am at a stop light, but it did that when I had the connector disconnected.

Mine never works but that is because I don't drive long enough trips to fully charge the battery after the car has been sitting. This is very common and doesn't necessarily mean the battery is bad.

Auto Start/Stop sometimes does not work with a good battery, if you drive a lot of short trips. It's the first thing battery management shuts down if the battery state of charge is less than perfect. With a 3 year old battery, my A.S.S. usually doesn't work around town when I'm running errands and just driving a few miles at a time, but it does work for a while after I've taken a longer drive or connected the battery to a charger. So if A.S.S. is working, your battery is probably in good health, but A.S.S. not working does NOT necessarily mean you have a problem with your battery.

UPDATE: I ran some errands today around town, on a hot sunny afternoon with the air conditioner running. I turned A.S.S. on just out of curiosity. At first I made several local stops, and between, A.S.S. never activated, listing "vehicle charging" as the reason. Then I decided to drive across town (about 6-7 miles) for lunch, and by the time I got to my destination, A.S.S. listed "vehicle cooling" as the reason. It was on Max AC. I put the AC on Auto set to 68F, and at the next stop, the engine turned off, and did so at each stop on the way home. If I had a lengthy daily commute, A.S.S. would probably work most of the time.

Battery tested, battery is fine.

Thank you for the explanation. I hope the A.S.S. is just broken and will never work again lol.
