Question Backup Camera Question

Hi all!

I have been trying to wrap my head around adding the OEM backup camera to my '16 XL. Would really appreciate it if someone could help me out just to confirm my plans to make it all work. Apologies if this has been covered. Tried searching but didn't find anything for my particular setup.

My truck came with the 4.2 display. I recently added the OEM bed lights and the package came with a harness which has a connector for the camera hookup as well. This was a nice surprise because I have been trying to figure out what route to go for the backup camera. I checked the harness it all goes back to and it seems it has the camera wires also.

Once I realized that the wires in the back are there, I popped the head unit and verified that the video source wires are there also. What I appear to be missing is just the harness from the back of the truck to the tailgate handle which plugs directly into the camera on one end.

I played with FORScan tonight and managed to get the "camera missing" error when I put it in reverse so the FCDIM value changes worked.

So now It's all looking very promising to me and I thought I check in with those who have had the opportunity to do this or know about this already before I pull the trigger on the OEM hardware.

I believe at this point my truck is pre-wired for the camera and I am only missing the harness for the camera that runs from the back bumper to the tailgate handle, the camera, and the actual door handle with the camera hole in it. If I have all of these 3 things it should work. For roughly about $200 I figure that I should be able to acquire all of the above if brand new.

Is my understanding correct or am I missing some sort of physical module perhaps along the way?

Thanks in advance!!

These guys seem to have some good info going. I would read this for sure. It's obviously for the 8" but I would imagine the wiring would be the same from the APiM to the tailgate.
