Default Backup Camera

My backup camera has been going in and out for months now. The picture is what it does most of the time but then sometimes I'll get in my truck and it's working like usual and nothing is wrong. Then it will randomly go back to what the picture looks like. I don't know of anything that I did that would have caused this to happen. Any ideas on how to fix this, or do I just need to bite the bullet and bring it into the dealership?

Check the electrical harness connector for the tailgate. Make sure water has not intruded and corroded the pins.

You can check the plug at the tailgate (it unplugs to remove the tailgate), but unless it's corroded and fixable, there's nothing to fix.

First thing I would do is go under the tailgate and disconnect the cable harness and spray some contact cleaner in both sides. Let it evaporate or use canned compressed air to speed up the evaporation process and plug it back in. Might be all it needs. When your head unit only shows a blue screen, that's when it either the camera itself that has failed or the camera processing module. Since your getting something from the camera I would try this first and then go from there. Keep us posted.

I've had that screen a half dozen times in the 2 years since I got the truck. It just seems to happen randomly, and each time I shut it off , restarted truck and it had self corrected.
Maybe a connector issue at the tailgate ?
