Default Backfire in Intake when Cold

Hi all, I've heard this odd noise a few times now and just wanted to see if anyone else has heard it, or heard of it.

When the truck is cold, (-11C this morning) and it's started to warm up, I can hear a small backfire in the intake when clearing snow off the truck. It's a very low frequency "puff", every 5-10 seconds. No misfire codes are thrown at all. Once the truck is normal operating temp it goes away.

Our 2L Ecoboost in the Escape has never done this. Is something wrong? Is this normal for the 3.5L EcoBoost?

Interested to hear your feedback guys!

Thanks!

Took the truck in for an oil change this morning and mentioned this to the Service Advisor. he mentioned that Ford engineers are looking into a "noise in the front end" I advised that it's not the timing chain like rattle that i'm talking about, but my truck does have that noise as well.

He was very vague in his information giving lol We'll see what becomes of it.

Oh, and they found my oil pan was cracked when they started the oil change... Overnight stay and they'll replace it. At least they gave me a loaner Escape

Lovely.

Man sorry to hear about the cracked oil pan.

Far as the backfire sounding puffs you're hearing, since its gonna sit overnight hopefully they'll hear the noise and diag it.

I once had a car i used every great once in a while that did something similar.
Turned out to be a @#$%'n mouse nest in the air cleaner housing causing a way too rich fuel mixture.

That's what I was hoping too, but they will probably not look for it unless the tech just happens to hear it.
It's funny that it's not throwing a code of any kind for it though (Forscanned).

Good news is the pan is something they're seeing more of.
We'll, not good, but it's not a one off, there's something really wrong with my specific truck.

But it IS an aluminum pan, not plastic or abs.

Service advisor said it was a run of trucks with close vin that have this issue from the factory.

KrS14, did you ever get a fix? Mine 18 v8 pops but difficult to reproduce. Usually occurs under mild acceleration combined with backing off the throttle at the same time as a shift occurs. Kind of happens at random. Running hi test and have tried different gasses to no avail.
KrS14 did you ever get an explanation or a fix. Going to be taking mine in for regular service soon?

Mine only does it for the first couple minutes when really cold. And it's only under idle, so I haven't pursued it.
Driving it is fine, runs smooth as a baby's bottom.

I'll keep an ear on it throughout the warmer weather and see if it still does it. If not, then next winter I may have to re visit it.
