Default automatic tailgate ??

I'm wondering if it's possible to make the tailgate on my 2015 Ford F-150 XLT automatic. Can anyone advise me or provide me with information on what parts I would need? I've tried searching for information but haven't had any luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By "automatic" I'm assuming you mean electronic release like what is on the Lariat and above. The wiring is completely different between the two tailgates and would likely require either replacing your existing main wiring harness running to the rear of the truck, or making your own new harness. The electronic tailgate uses a proximity antenna in the tailgate to ensure only an authorized fob is nearby when the button is pushed to release the gate. This would require an upgrade to the RKE fob like used with the Push Button Start. If you are going to switch to this fob, you might as well add the keyless entry to the doors and Push Button Start since you would need to add all the proximity antennas in order to get the fob to work. This is possible, but very involved.

Just say no. I've got a Lariat with the solenoid tailgate actuator. Bad news. Stupid design. They are prone to fail. Mine did with the tonneau cover latched down. Could not access the bed. I was able to force it open one last time - and then take it to the dealer to have the solenoid replaced.
