Default Automatic SYNC Updates?

How often and when does SYNC use the Wi-Fi to check on updates?
Reviewing the owners manual, it says it will continue a download for up to 30 minutes after turning off the truck.
We have such crappy internet, we all have to turn off everything connected to our Wi-Fi to watch our internet only TV. 7 people, 7 Iphones, 3 iPads, 5 TVs, play station and X-box, plus any “smart” appliances. So I’m looking to minimize at any possible Wi-Fi using gear.

I cannot answer the question on how often does SYNC check for updates via Wi-Fi. However, you can turn off the Wi-Fi update checking in the SYNC system menu. If you do that, you can manually update whenever you want. If you don't already have an account, go to owner.ford.com and create an account. From there you can manually check for and download available SYNC updates specific to your vehicle when you want. Just an idea and would keep your truck from utilizing the low bandwidth internet you have....

It takes a minute or two to check for updates every time it connects to your WiFi, but 99% of the time it's up to date and it doesn't download anything. Updates have been coming out a time or two per year.

If you don't want to be connected all the time, register at the Ford owner support site and they will send you an email when there's an update available. Then turn off your truck's WiFi until you get an email. The WiFi connection doesn't do anything else.

Turning off the auto update was my backup plan, if required.
I was unaware that Ford would email about updates.
Just wondered about how it worked, wifi time wise.
The last update took quite a while.
