Default Auto Stop not working because battery charging.

Not that it is a big deal, don't really like the feature anyway. But this happens after 2.5 hours of non stop driving on a 129 mile commute.
Seems to me the battery should be charged by then, and it really was not discharged to begin with. More often than not, the auto stop feature does not work. I have other issues, once n awhile I get the hillstart/parking brake not available/ stabilatrak/ golden wrench, alerts. They replaced the gateway module, thought that took care of it for a couple hundred miles, but once in a while it goes through it's routine.

My question is this: Is it normal for the auto stop to be routinely disabled on its own due to battery charging?

Truck now has 1300 miles on it.

Thanks

Not usually. If you're getting that message, I would suspect either a failing batter or a problem in the BMS system - often a sensor disconnected or the BMS disabled via Forscan. If the BMS isn't functioning, you'll receive that message permanently.

Yep once the temp starts to drop mine does it too. My truck is driven daily, voltage reads near full charge so after my 15 min drive it should not still below the low voltage cut off which is 70-80%. I hasn't worked in almost 3 weeks now. I asked the dealer and they blew me off and printed a copy of the auto start stop information from the owner's manual and had zero interest in hearing why it should not happen. Sometimes if we are running around town off an on for a few hours it will start working so i kind of wonder if its a battery temp vs voltage ratio thing and the error message is just generic.

interestingly, the stupid fordpass app keeps saying I have a DTC for "charging system failure" but when i pull the codes there is nothing stored or pending. Also says there is for "random Misfire" but the knock counters are all under 5, no codes or no running issues.

I've had my 15 for 3 years now, and never really read into the ***. I use it when it benefits me, and when it works. I read the owners manual, and it really speaks to the conditions when it will and will not work. I live in Phoenix, and mine seems to never work in the summer. I take short trips, and the temperature never seems to be "ambient." I took the truck to San Diego this past July, and it worked at every light I stopped at; it was noticeably different there. Of course, that is due to the temperature difference. I just recently had a low voltage battery replaced, but I have never saw the charging message when it was low.

Just drove three hours straight, still not working due to vehicle charging. I’m of mixed mind, I hate the feature, but concerned that it is a symptom of something else.

I've notice my '18 has an AGM battery, which kind of impressed me.. Little off topic but kind of related. How long has Ford been using those?

After 11,000 miles my truck did the same thing. Auto start/stop didn't work for days at time, and I got the gold wrench light/hill start assist not available warning. Dealer replaced my battery and I haven't had an issue since (now at 37,000 miles).

I believe the addition of the AGM was a product of the Auto Start -Stop. 17 3.5's had them as well.

My older 2011 BMW has a AGM too. It requires the new battery be registered when installed. Is that a requirement with a Ford too?

Yes, The BMS must be reset with the installation of a new battery or you will likely experience issues similar to what the OP reports. This isn't something that is specific to the AGM, though. This system was in place in many older Ford vehicles that don't use AGM batteries.
