Default Is Auto-Start-Stop really worth it?

ok granted I have had my new f150 for just a mere TWO days now, is this function really saving a measurable amount of gas? What are your thoughts/opinions please?

Not sure I would say worth it. I've driven other vehicles with auto start stop and the f150 version with the ac running is....different. It's the fact that the start stop turns itself back on if the cabin isn't cool enough that is annoying. Not sure why the ac has to be blowing lower when the engine is auto stopped.

In other vehicles the ac keeps blowing at the same level but then again those other vehicles I am referring to are hybrids.

Nice feature but doesn't save as much imo.

It's pretty subjective, if most of your driving is highway, then not much good.
If you in a climate that's hot, ac on all the time, then not much good.
If your in 4x4 a lot (winter in Canada) well you get the idea.
There is really no way to track how much fuel is being saved.
With that said, I like it and have no issues with it. I have mastered the pressure on the brake pedal if I don't want it to shut off, but if the engine ain't running, then I ain't using any gas. More for the stop and go commute where red lights maybe 45 to 70 seconds long.

I've only had my 2.7 for 2 weeks, but like others have said, I really don't know how you could accurately measure the fuel savings. I am still getting used to the feature....it is odd. Sometimes when the truck auto starts back up, I can hear the engine start (like a normal start), and other times, it is almost silent and seamless. Overall, I don't mind it for city traffic with lots of lights, stop signs, etc. Where I find it super annoying is in the drive-thru line at Tims...auto starting and stopping all the time as I creep up to the window. It usually really pisses me off and I hit the button to disable it.
Like a previous poster, you need to find the right pressure on the brake pedal for easier disabling if you want....doesn't take long to master it.
Enjoy your new truck OP...got pics?

Another fuel savings gimmick to get the City #s higher so manufacturers can meet the new/increasing fleet standards.

Lots of German automakers have been using it for a while. BMW (and Mazda I believe) even has a clutch on their alternator like the A/C compressor so the alternator doesn't add drag to the system when the battery is charged.

It actually isn't well reflected in the EPA numbers. It is generally believed that given the right conditions auto start/stop can make a reasonable difference in heavy city driving.

People keep acting like there is some huge downside to it but as far as I can tell there isn't one. The only possible downside is additional wear on the starter but the chief engineer has spoken about this and they design for it.

No, I would find it annoying. It's one of the reasons I didn't even consider ordering the 2.7

Really worth it? NO But it makes for great marketing and all those features sell trucks.

Sitting on the sidelines and listening to those of you in the game, y'all just can't not buy the new 2015 with all the do dads! Some of them work, some don't and some are a real pain in the ***, working or not!!

One of the problems is that, while it's not what YOU meant, if you want certain features you "can't not buy" those features without a whole raft of other things you may not want.

I'd be happy with an XLT-ish truck with cloth buckets, console+floor shifter, LED headlights, HD Payload, trailer mirrors, rear view camera and the bigger, higher-functioning MFD between the tach and speedo. However, it can't be done. You currently have to give up on HD Payload to get LED headlights, and you can't get cloth seats and the big MFD on the same truck, etc. I will avoid features like active cruise control as long as it's possible to do so, but leather's kinda nice for 2/3 of the year (it's not that great in the summer in TX!)

I'll likely end up with a Lariat 502A truck unless a package comes out for the XLT that gets it most of what I want (like the HID package that eventually was offered on the previous-gen XLTs, etc.) I don't really care about push-button start or BLIS or nav for example, but they make you take all that to get the LED headlights.
