Auto SS Won't Engage Due to Engine Temp Too Low? but 98C
This was an odd one that happened for the first time today.
I came to a stop light about 20 minutes from home that the truck ALWAYS Auto SSs at. Today it didn't and It was showing the following:
98C doesn't seem cold to me lol
Tranny temp was 81C
So is it looking at something other than the coolant for this temperature?
Anyone experience anything similar?

Was set to Auto climate at 22 degrees C, it was at temp.
Outside temp was maybe -3C Again, this was after 20 mins of driving.
Ford service says:
Engine On due to Low Temperature - Engine is on in order to increase the engine temperature to an acceptable level.
So it thought the engine was colder than it should have been for some reason.

It definitely should not engage at that low outside temperature. The low temp message is referring to outside temp.

Engine On due to Outside Air Temp - Engine is on to support normal vehicle operation due to low outside ambient temperature.
It's not that low either TBH, remember Celsius, not F

Mine quits at around 35F. That's around 2C. I'm not sure where the exact cutoff temp is.

The start/stop feature for most cars handle these situations similarly. My M3/F-150/Range Rover Sport all have Auto SS feature and all work similarly with some small differences.
Auto SS is disabled when:
- battery charge is insufficient
- battery draw is excessive (defroster/seat heaters etc)
- ambient temp is too low outside
- ambient temps are too high
- AC is running and cooling charge is insufficient and needs the compressor to run
- Engine temps are outside "acceptable range" for that manufacture (engine not to operating temp or elevated temps)
All these are parameters are designed to make sure comfort and the ability for the truck to restart and cause no damage. You would hate to be in a situation where Auto SS activates and the truck canoe restart.
