Default Auto-Off in Park

I noticed something while stopped the other night quite by accident. I was looking at something out the window with my foot on the brake and the auto-shutoff engaged. I absentmindedly threw it into park in order to get out and get a closer look and lo and behold the engine remained off. I opened the door and got out and the engine remained off until I got back in and put it back into gear, then released the brake. Now, I don't have the push-button start, but I know most of you who do, have the extremely annoying "double-honk on exit". I started wondering if maybe this procedure would eliminate it? Give it a shot! If not, sorry, it was just a thought.

Can you explain what you mean by the double-honk?

Discussed many times. Get in your truck. Start it. Leave key fob in pocket, get out and close the door... Apparently there are a HUGE (done for effect) number of people that have a pressing need to exit their vehicles without turning them off. Many have asked Donald Trump if he will order Ford to change this if/when/OMG he is elected Combover in chief.

He's not a push button though.

Well, I'm not surprised it's that common. In the winter, I'm in and out of my truck all the time, sanding, salting, pulling people off roads... not going to shut off the engine for all that. And my wife's Exploder (2016) also has that feature, and we get in and out of that a lot when loading / unloading for trips and so on. Though I don't think hers has auto shut-off.

My neighbor's new Mustang also has the double-honk (yeah, I get it, they all do). We all hate it.

I get it... it's supposed to tell you that you're an idiot and the truck / car / suv is still on so you don't kill your whole family by filling the garage and house with CO, but as none of the three of us have an attached garage, it'd be nice to shut that off.

I don't have keyless entry, so I was not aware.

So I don't have keyless entry or push button start and I have not seen this issue. When I put it in park and open the door the dash just beeps at me.

I didn't know the truck could even have auto off unless you had push button

The auto off OP is talking about is the stop/start feature on the 2.7EB. I discovered the same thing he did by accident while waiting for a friend I ran by the post office, pulled into a spot and just sat there for a moment, engine stopped, then I threw it in park, and it stayed off. Kinda cool. Can't remember, but I think it will come back on eventually if you have the A/C on though, it'll cycle like that at a long red light if it's hot outside and A/C is on.

The auto stop/start will start the engine when an electrical load is applied. like ac or heater and if you have all the lights on and wipers it is sometime enough of a draw to start the engine. I say leave the double horn honk alone. if you get out of the car with the fob after the engine stops someone can still drive off with the car haven't tried it but my friend drove off without his girlfriend and she had the fob. when he got to the park with us and shut the car off he couldn't restart the car without the fob. If someone test this before I get back let us know. And yes I have the 2.7 TT crewcab 2015
