So, since I moved to Arizona, I discovered that just about EVERYONE drives like a complete A..hole! I was getting about 18-19.5 mpg on average in an attempt to keep up with the Jones'. I decided to try an experiment. That was, staying in the right lane and doing about 5mph over the limit and let all the reckless jerks pass me. Well it works like a charm and I usually end up driving in my own little, "Island", with no one around me, which suits me perfectly. My mileage jumped up to 23 - 23.5 MPG! After I just replaced my 5-year old battery, it went up even more! Check it out! This is my average day to day driving on regular (87 octane) gas. I have about a 30-40 minute commute depending on traffic. I drive between 50 and 70mph depending on the road, but it's mostly 65mph highways. I have the 28 gallon tank.
So...you're saying you became that idiot that holds up traffic flow and causes accidents, all for the sake of saving 46 cents a day???
A bit harsh.
Speed limit plus 5mph means a relaxing drive being able to ignore looking for cops, especially when towing. IF somebody does the speed limit, you should not complain. People that are afraid to drive the posted speed are the dangerous ones.
The real idiots are the ones that think a few seconds of their life is worth my entire life.
I think this is a great idea. I have tried it myself. Around here though, you'll still get people tailgating you even if it is a 2 lane (in each direction) road. I try to go the "de facto" speed limit if it is a 1-lane road. In my area that is typically 50 when the posted is 35. I have been behind those going 35 in a 35 and it is not pleasant. I am fairly rural though and there is no logical reason to have some of these 35mph limits.
Here is a tailgater on me when I was doing a good 10-15 over the limit.
I'm still running my winter wheels without the TPMS sensors in them and snow tires from when we moved from NY in December of '21, LOL. They were practically brand new and I didn't anticipate them lasting this long. I love Nokian Tires (Hakkapeliitta LT3's)!
