Default APIM Trouble?

My Snyc 3 has become pretty glitchy over the last 3 months. The Sirius XM still works which is what I use mostly, but the response to tuning, volume control etc can be really slow at times. The fone controls don't seem to be working at all. Haven't tried the Nav for fear of crashing the whiole thing.

Questions: There seems to be a reset procedure(warm boot?) and a "hard" reset(cold boot?). Reset is with pressing the volume and forward buttons simultaneously? And hard reset through the settings screen?

I did the "reset" and the system does seem to be responding quicker. If I do the hard reset, which restores factory settings, does it still retain the last updated version of Sync, or does it revert to "as delivered" version?

Does it seem to go catatonic, then all of a sudden catch up... repeating cycle? If you get into nav, you'll probably see a "No GPS" (circle/slash) icon at times too. All hallmarks of a bad APIM.

I went ahead and did a hard reset on the system and it did retain the latest Sync update version. The nav came up right away showing my location and started off ok when I enabled voice commands. When it got to asking for an address in GA, it went all wonky and cut out and delayed commands. The XM commands were slow responding also.

Hard reset definitely won't dump the OS out. I hope you're still in warranty, because you're about to crap an APIM.

Nope, I'm 9+ months out of the 3/36 warranty now. Lucky me(not!)!

I am in this same spot. As if this week. Is there an aftermarket HU worthwhile?
I have an STX, so I don't have climate controls in the SYNC.

Those are a well-known failure point. If you have a good relationship with your dealer, I'd call and have a chat. Failing that, I'd call Ford and open a case. Worse thing they can say is no.
