Anyone GoPro their active shutters yet?

I believe Ram first used them starting with the 2013 model.
It's the first application on the F150. (2015)

I like the idea of them in the winter for sure, also in the summer why have more bugs in the radiator then you have to, I do wish there was some way to know what state they are in

I was thinking about that this morning and specifically in the winter. I wash out the engine every spring but these should in theory keep things a lot cleaner.

When you first start the truck they do like a self-test or something. They close completely and then open all the way, and then go into the required position according to temperature. If you have remote start, stand in front of the truck and remote start it and you'll see it do the test. The driving around part is what I'm curious about, just to see how they work. I know when my AC was on, they opened all the way. I'm wondering if it also does that when you put it in tow/haul mode among other variables.
I doubt they weight that much. No more than a bag of groceries would, or a gallon of gas...

Yeah mine do end up with lots of dead bugs on them that would have ended up jammed in the rad. I also think that's one less chance to get a rock puncture in the rad. My last vehicle had a punctured rad from a flying rock on the highway...

I've never put a camera on them but I know they open/close. You can tell in the rain (and this drove me CRAZY). After a rain storm I'll be driving and when I slow down to a light, water starts splashing upwards onto my hood. I could not figure out what was going on when I got the truck it was so odd. Then I learned about these shutters that open/close and understood what it was.
I can't say what happens as I drive but I know on startup I can hear them open/close

I think its a great idea. My rad looks new after a winter of rocks and sand pelting the front.

So I could not figure out a way to safely mount the gopro using the mounts I had to be able to see the radiator shutters. The whole thing is surrounded on the inside by shields. But I did notice (and never realized before) that there are also shutters on the intercooler. So I clamped the camera to the inside of the bottom grill opening just to the right of the license plate. The truck was cold (although it was already 80 degrees at 10am today). Then I drove about 5 minutes – a couple of minutes through my neighborhood and then out to a main street where I got it up to about 55 probably. The intercooler shutters open on demand pretty much in sync with the turbos. I don’t know what the main shutters were doing at the time, but I have access to another camera and if I can figure out a way to mount the camera to the upper part I ‘ll do another video.
This isn’t edited at all and I tried to do some narration but it is hard to hear – I had the wrong back on the camera. Next time I’ll put the open back on. Sorry about that!
Enjoy!

If shutters and air dam don't impact mpg at all ...I wonder why Ford spends $$$ on installing them. Lol. Each element might only save 0.5mpg or less ... But combined it adds up
