Gas station annoyances:

1.) States that have determined that it's too dangerous for a civilian like me to handle an explosive like gasoline. (NJ & OR)

2.) States that have decided that it's too dangerous for the environment to give me a clicker or whatever it's called on the gas pump nozzle, forcing me to stand at the pump and squeeze the pump for the entire 35 gallon fill-up. VT, NY, and ?? I wedged my wallet into a pump once, just b/c my hand was cold, and had an attendant threaten to call the fire marshal on me.

3.) People that take too long at the pump.

I'll take number 3 over 1 & 2 any day.

^ re: #2 I have a "rectangular'ish" tape measure that I keep in the rear driver side door just to wedge in the pump handle. Perfect size, never had a problem.

Weird. In Mississippi we have gas stations with no attendants (2 that I have used). Just a credit card reader on the gas pumps. Either our state government expects us to have enough sense to pump gas, or they just don't care . I guess they'll do away with those when some knucklehead makes it rain lol.

Up here in Canada, the folks are so friendly that the guy waiting behind you will usually give you a beer and a smoke, and have a game of cards with you while he waits!! Lol

Depends on where you go too, some gas station pumps move quick as hell but others are super slow, feels like I could take a nap or watch a tv show while I wait.
Don't know what hippy Statell you all live but if someone's honks at you in Georgia because they are an impatient *****, thing will get stupid real fast.

Taxes are really high, but if there was just one thing I could change about Oregon it would be to legalize pumping your own gas. Another down side no one mentioned is that it's hard to find somewhere to fill up at night. Most of the stations close because they don't want to pay someone to stand around.

I've gotten gas in NY, but never noticed that - I'll have to pay more attention next time.

And #1 isn't really about safety, people support it because it creates jobs for their teenage kids and because they (mostly women) want full service which would be basically non-existent unless everyone else subsidized it as required by law.

In NY it varies by locale, whether or not they have the handle detents. In Monroe county, there are none, but in neighboring Wayne county, it varies by the station. I've never been honked at while pumping gas, but if it ever happens, I can tell you my truck will be sitting at that pump for a long time, while I go inside and make pleasant conversation with the shop keeper! I always pay with debit at the pump in order to get the "Cash" price.

To be fair, when I was honked at, it was a couple hours before that "Blizzard" hit which means in this area everyone flocks to the gas station and there's usually a line with a 20 minutes wait just to get to the pump lol. Still though, a honk is a bit ridiculous
