Hey if it works for you, go nuts! I suspect that long range reception will be less than optimal with a cut down antenna but if you're always in town then no big deal.

I know the recommended length for an automobile is usually 31". I also know a thing or two about antennas!

The reason I cut mine is to clear my garage. I was also careful to just wack off enough to achieve that.

I left it long enough to still be above my cab so if I go into an unknown parking garage (Very Slowly) my antenna will warn me if it's too low.

Thanks for yer suggestion, next time ya might wanna explain why.

I clamped the ant piece with the ball in a vise then twisted the ball off wit a pair of vise grips wrapped with a scrap of leather. had to grind tip of shortend ant.to fit in the ball, secured with a dab of"JB" weld, finished with a rattle can black. Note before reinstalling I screwed a 1/4" wing nut with the wings up tightly to the ant. this allowed me to remove and replace ant without tools for car wash.

I placed the cut off piece in the vice spaced just enough to allow antenna to be free but not the ball, then I tapped on the vice grip to dislodge the ball.

I ground the tip and super-glued the ball back on.

Pic shows what I'm trying to lay down in words, ball already removed but ya should get the idea how easy it is.
