Default Another what's that sound thread, 16 3.5Eco

Sorry for posting another what's that sound thread, but I have not yet heard anyone else have this same sound I'm hearing. I'm hearing a grinding noise when I first start from a stop and press the pedal down. I also can hear it holding my foot on the brake and slightly pressing the gas down as well. YouTube video below. I have not taken it to the dealer as it's past the 36k warranty period and time is valuable these days. I've also already replaced the YG360 valve as well as the solenoid so I do not think it's a IWE issue. Truck is a 2016 3.5 Ecoboost. Anyone else have/heard this same noise with a possible fix? I'm thinking it could be the transmission but it sure sounds like it's coming from the front drivers side of the engine.

It could still be IWEs...mine were fckd right from purchase and I had them replaced twice under warranty.
If they are partially engaging they will make a bit of a screeching sound or a humming sound.

Seems these dam IWEs are nothing but a huge PITA!!!! Everyones got issues with them! (if thats the case with yours)

I could be a leak somewhere other than the check valve or solenoid. pinhole leak in the tubing. That being said, does it make the noise with the truck stationary (foot on brake and slight throttle with the truck not rolling at all)? That would indicate something other than the IWE vacuum system. I couldn't actually hear anything in the video, but another possibility is the wastegate clips. Maybe check them for play.

To me, it sounds like a piece of sheet metal is vibrating. You say you can stop, apply brake and throttle and you hear it, are you like brake torquing without moving? The IWE problem isn't heard at a stop, when sitting still, vehicle needs to be moving.

I too thought it also sounded like a heat shield. Yes, I was talking about brake torquing and it'll do it. Interesting thing is though, I cannot hear it hardly any when I am just idling, only when I am in drive.

Yes it does make the noise with the truck stationary (brake torquing). Best way to hear it in the video is with headphones and the volume turned up a bit.

Just for grins, get someone you can TRUST, and have them replicate the same condition, while you take a look through the fender well at the linkage on the turbo. There is a linkage for the wastegate that has been known to rattle around. Once you see it, take a long screwdriver, gently pry under it to stop it vibrating, and see if the noise stops. I know Ford has a fix, I don't know what they do though.
I'll look at mine shortly and get back with you.

Until I get back, take a look in the Raptor forum, a few guys there had a problem with the linkage, and maybe some photos.

Yeah, I have seen that video before. I've already inspected the wastegate and it is nice a tight unlike his where it's loose and you can move it side to side.
