Another rust underside - WWYD
Well that was fast, asked ultimately where we stand on the deal, either fix or discount, so I'll fix it myself
"This deal is now completely out of my hands. I wish there was something I could do for you, but our GM is pretty set on not doing it now."
Oh well, moving on. Asked other dealers for pictures plus rather give $ where the first response before the sale isn't *no*
I can only imagine what happens after the sale if that's what I get before they have my $
This is from another dealer and how it came from the factory

This is how it should look: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/my-ru...-again-297812/
It's just up to you whether or not the look bothers you. It doesn't seem that anyone thinks it is a functional problem, but I agree that it is a quality failure.

First post on this F-150 forum so be kind
I have had Ford trucks for the past 25 years (F250's & F350's) all bought new and special ordered. They all came with rusty front & rear axles, even driveshafts.
Sure looks like crap, especially on a new truck. I would have thought that Ford would have finally stepped it up and fixed this cosmetic issue over the years as GM has done.
With that being said, I just sold my 2000 F-350 Powerstroke that came rusty and it never caused a issue, nor has it ever caused a issue on my other Ford trucks which came rusty.
So while it does look bad and is certainly not finished to the level of detail I would like and what should be expected on a $50K truck, in the end I doubt if it will cause any issues. But they should not leave the factory looking like that, just looks like a half-a**ed job.
The hunt for a new Ford truck continues.....

I'm just going to paint my whole rear axle with a brush. I don't really care how it looks as long as it's protected.
Truck needs to go in service in the tropics where the nearest Ford dealer requires a ferry trip - far far from easy - weather obviously is hot and humid
Would anyone just leave it as-is? Is it truly superficial and/or will it ever become a structural problem?
Issue is all trucks that we looked at have the same issue and unsure how quickly Ford corporate + dealer can move to get it fixed.

Dealer did, actually, in a passive way
I had salesman reach out to his service reps for the repair, reps informed the dealer that they would not auth the work
I asked for the rep's info so I could put him in touch with Brittany and Ford corporate to sort it out - he responded he sees no reason to get Ford involved
Nevertheless, I did PM Brittany so we'll see but doesn't look good

Brittany
Do you prefer PMs or this thread to communicate? I spoke with the GM tonight, maybe there's hope come tomorrow, but if you/Ford Service could let me know what I need to do now to get it fixed, that would be huge.
