Default Another 2016 CarPlay Thread

Good day.
I have a new-to-me 2016 F150 XLT with NAV purchased late March 2020. When I purchased the truck, I was immediately interested in CarPlay as I have used it in several rental vehicles. After researching, I found out that I need the software and hardware upgrades. I upgraded the software to Version 3.0 Build 19205 about a week after I bought the truck (another banging my head against the wall experience, but finally accomplished). I purchased the USB hub required (purchased the HC3Z-19A387-B and received the HC3Z-19A387-E). I installed the hub and got the USB not supported message. I have completed a Master Reset of the unit several times as well as a reset of my iPhone 7Plus. When I plug my phone in (with various cords), the phone will charge but not activate CarPlay. I do not have the CarPlay option on my SYNC screen and when I plug my phone in and try to connect to CarPlay on phone, SYNC 3 does not show up. I have also ensured that under "Screen Time" and "Content & Privacy Restrictions", CarPlay is activated. I am at a loss and really don't want to take it to a dealer to get the run around of "2016s don't have CarPlay". Anything else that I am missing??

Something else that is unusual is that on the Automatic System Updates screen, it says that the system last checked for updates on 9/23/2000. The system actually updated to Version 3.0 on it's own after I tried the USB option with no results after numerous attempts and about 6 hours wasted. All of the text messages that come across to my SYNC screen when phone is plugged in, all have a date of 2000 as well. I cannot figure out if this tied to my SYNC issue or just another problem that I am going to have to fix.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Jeff

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean did I power the hub when I installed it? Are you asking if the truck was off when I installed it? Thanks.

What I believe Ruler is referring to is that when upgrading the USB hub it requires a dedicated power source instead of just plugging in the existing usb cord into the new hub. There a a few write ups on this.

Then to answer that question, I did not. I have not read about that. I will try to find some more info on it. Thanks.

Ok, so what I can gather from that post is that particular truck only had 1 USB outlet. Mine already had the 2 in the center console. Pardon my confusion, but everything that I have seen and read indicated that this was a simple plug and play conversion (which is why this has become so frustrating)....

Thats exactly why its not working then. You need to power the usb hub for apple play to work. I bought the plug off of Amazon and wired it into the power outlet ( cigarette lighter) right next to it.

Read that thread, but just like this

Yes. The old one was exactly like it with just a different part number.

This is the new one connected.
