I can get another 3 gallons in my Edge every time I fill up no matter where I get gas. My F150 maybe a half gallon at best so I don’t try to put anymore in it.

Only way to be accurate. I disagree. I track my fuel mileage. This truck 263 tanks.
Never have I topped off. Hose shuts off, it comes out of truck.
Fuel mileage is amount used, it doesn't matter how much is left in tank.

Really folks . . . quit doing this! Because gasoline needs room to expand, your tank needs extra room for that expansion. If you try to top off, the extra gas you’re trying to add may actually evaporate into your vehicle’s vapor collection system. This can ruin the mechanism, making it work improperly, and cause your car to run less efficiently.

No longer.
The jerry can suggestion (not for distance in my case) created its own mess. The container's nozzle is not identical to the gas pump nozzle.
The adapter was not helpful. I have to review manual for next time.
Brightside: You can sit inside the cab, continue to decipher Sync, wait for click, return nozzle and go:-))
Then get yourself a plan with AAA roadside assistance or maybe not leave the cans unsecured in the bed. To the nonobserver the adapter isnt the size of a fire hose and not ment for fast filling. OP is talking about filling after the first click and the range he's wanting to gain

the diagram is kind of funny... but on a highway fillup you will create that space very quickly at 60mph. I never turn my vehicle off when fueling and
local usage in my truck is typically <1/4 tank. Also note the check valves as the F150 typically has enough room on top. Vans or more compact platforms not so much.
Of all the vehicles Ive driven over the years the ONLY one Ive managed to run bone dry was a Transit Connect. The DTE was showing 50 miles so I pushed it a lil further... then it sputtered and coasted off the exit with ~25 miles DTE showing about 75 yards from the fuel pumps. On my personal & work F150s the DTE is a lil more "accurate"

Nonsense. The tank is full when the pump clicks off the first time. Pumping in an extra pint or two doesn't increase the accuracy of a mpg calculation. A quart is about 1/2 of 1% of 36 gallons.

I thought the diagram was funny looking too... but then again, its for example purposes. I useto fillup while engine idled too but somewhere on the forum I read that there is a relief valve/switch that opens/closes when the vehicle is off. Filling while its running may cause it to stick which leads to not opening when the fuel pump is feeding the engine... and the plastic tank begings to suck in on itself. I believe I also saw that example on FORDTECHMAKULOCO
it was interesting to see that. So now to avoid a possible future issue, I shut it off.

Hell, mine won't even take an extra handle pull... but it isn't a problem until I pull the nozzle out. Then it acts just like I'm trying to walk away from a urinal.
