Default Aligning strut assemblies

So I'm installing bilstein 5100’s in the front end of my 2015. I am removing 2 inch spacers which affects the rotational positioning of the top plate of the strut(the studs were offset). Is it possible to rotate the spring assembly under full tension, or do I have to compress the spring, rotate the hole assembly, then release the tension?

Does it matter what rotational position the spring is in as long as top/bottom plates are lined up with the coil? I know the bottom of the strut needs to be installed with the correct angle facing out.

You will have to compress the springs to rotate the shock inside the spring assembly. The three mounting holes are a bit oval but that only helps so much, you do need to get the lower mounting oriented correctly to the top piece with the studs for it to fit into the truck. I run a line of painters tape over the steel top piece and the rubber top cushion and a piece on the bottom coil in line with the front of the shock. I just sight down the shock to make sure it is in line before disassembly and then at reassembly. I don't know if it matters at all but both of my front coils were in the same orientation, the upper and lower end of the coil were on the shock's right, that is, the passenger side was towards the rear, driver's side towards the front.
