Default Admin key question

Regarding the mykey system, the limits are in place and I only have one key. I would also like to make a spare on top of have the one extra key. Should I buy an uncut spare online then go pay the big ticket to get an admin key and have them cut that one for me?
Thanks for any input.

Are you technically savvy? I think you can use Forscan (about $30 adapter cost) to program a new key. Then you can buy a blank, have it cut, and then program it yourself. Otherwise, you will have to have the dealer program the key. Once you have two keys, you can program more yourself by a process detailed in he manual.

Forscan can't program keys on our trucks. Gotta take it to the dealer if you have only one key. You can find blanks online for cheaper than the dealer is charging, then you only have to pay the fee for programming and cutting.

Awesome thanks, anyone have a link for oem blanks? I can only seem to find low quality ones, and they can program one to be the "admin" key right?

All keys are admin keys until you designate it a MyKey. Ebay was my main source for a Intelligent Access Key for $89 and it was the real deal. I'm assuming you have a regular key?

If all else fails, use Tasca. They are a Ford dealer.
