Default Additional ATF cooler

Has anybody added an additional ATF cooler to their 3.5L Eco tranny cooler with Max Tow?

My 2018 truck is on order and wonder ring ahead of time if it is worth considering.

I would think it would not be necessary if you already have the MAX tow. I would tow with it and see how it does keeping the temp to normal.

you ever want that trans fluid to come to temp? Keep it below optimal operating range and that fluid/the trans will hate you.

I wouldn't do it.

Have any links to what is presumed optimal operating range? On my Silverado it pretty much runs at less than150 unless I am towing up a steep grade where it only gets up to 190.

I can tell you that my '17 with just regular tow package takes 10-15mins of driving to get the trans to normal range, and when the trans fluid is cool/cold, it shifts rather firm in lower gears. Once it's up to temp, it's buttery smooth.

Here is a link to another thread about Tranny coolers. The new tranny's are way different then the older ones in what they like and don't like.

Well you are going to be shocked to find out that Ford's transmission likes it hot compared to your old GM. In my truck, Ford's 6R80 happy space is about 190-200 give or take. It seems to maintain that temp in normal driving. 200-210 is not unusual towing. I think the service manual says the normal range for the 6R80 is 193-215. I will assume the 10R80 likes the same temperatures. Ford's transmissions do not like cold fluid which is why all trucks with the 10R80 come equipped with a transmission fluid warmer. I would not add an auxillary, auxillary cooler.
