Adding small plug/play amp to factory speakers. 2017 XLT non premium
I'm thinking of doing one of those compact 4x50ish amps. I found a nice plug and play harness that I wouldn't even need to run a power wire on ebay. I have a non-premium XLT Sync 3 setup.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-18-FOR...!-1:rk:16:pf:0 Few quick questions. #1, do the tweeters on the A-pillars run off the same channel as the door speakers? #2, any improvement in sound? I would do this first THEN likely upgrade to aftermarket speakers later. A lot of times I've found more juice goes a long way. #3, am I better off just ditching the stock speakers first? I just cringe when I hear quality speakers being ran under watt. Thank you! |
You could use this https://www.ebay.com/itm/ISO-SOT-984...53.m1438.l2649 plus this to get better sound https://www.ebay.com/itm/KICKER-45KE...cAAOSwMEtagcv2 as far as I know the tweeters are the same as the doors i would suggest getting a set of 2 way or 3 way speakers as it will make things sound clearer than stock |
If you get new speakers, get two ways in that lower budget that you'd like to be in. A good two way will be better than a cheap three way.
Stock setup on the truck is a 6 x 9 (full range??) one way in the door, and tweets in the A pillars. (Plus a full range in the back doors) Crutchfield has a setup for the front ...a 6x9 with remote dome tweeter, and matching 6 1/2 two way for the rear. Read the Crutchfield catalog and vids and pics to learn stuff about the truck |
Have you looked into a Kicker Key 180.4? Solves two problems: Greatly improves your stock radio and tidies up the balance, timing and a number of other soundfield issues. It gets great reviews, relatively simple to install (they say. We might see) and small enough to tuck away. Also compatible with Stop/Start if that matters.

Thank you! 1) the tweeters do branch off the door speakers, but i took @dhmcfadin layout idea and mounted my crossovers on my amp box then ran the tweeter wires back to the front 2) see first response 3) same as before |
Thanks for the replies. No start/stop on my truck to worry about. Stereo stuff is such an addictive box to open. Because once you do one thing you want to do it all. I know, I've done it in both my stangs. I'll spend some time searching on here to see what others have done. I wish there was a stereo specific section on here rather than hoping to get lucky on search terms.

it’s funny you mentioned that amp as that’s the one I linked above as a suggestion as well. I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks it’s a good improvement over stock. |
Kicker makes good amps but almost nothing else.
