Question Adding Homelink Mirror

I have a 2017 F-150 XLT Supercrew and I'm adding in the a Kia clearance mirror with compass, auto-dim and homelink. I'm looking to wire it up and found the wiring diagram to the existing auto dimming mirror. Looks like finding the ground and switched power was no problem, but there isn't a constant 12V in that harness to allow the homelink to run without being switched. Does anyone know if there is a good place to tie into 12V constant in the ceiling console? I can't seem to find a good wiring diagram of what's best to use up there.

It was designed to not have constant 12V for security reasons. If someone were to break into your truck at home they would be able to open the garage door. As it stands the factory stays on for a couple of minutes I believe then turns off.

The wiring on the mirror/homelink itself calls for constant 12V for the Homelink power itself (dimming and compass is switched). Not that it has to be that way, of course. I guess I was also used to my previous vehicles with Homelink mirrors that functioned with the vehicle off. However, I totally get your point as security is concerned. But, it's no different than having a garage door opener clipped to my visor as I previously did. Which, even though my truck is almost always parked in the garage, is probably not the best practice. I guess there isn't really any harm in wiring it to switched power. I might as well do that for now.

I personally wouldn't wire it like that.. and if i pass my wife's truck with the clipped garage door opener in plain view i take it out the car .. eventually she started to be smarter about it .. but then again i'm paranoid about home security .. i have 11 cameras in and around my home as well as a security system and firearms .. I also have a Home Automation routine that closes garage doors automatically after 30 mins during the day and 15 mins after it gets dark as my wife tends to forget to close the garage door

I have a homelink mirror in my truck and agree with the others. Keep it switched to the ignition for security. If it’s auto-dimming you don’t want it operating when the car is parked/off either.

The auto-dimming is on separate power and is already connected to switched power. I appreciate the feedback and have connected both into the switched 12v. Thanks for the help!

Would you mind sharing what diagram you are working with and the part you're using as well? Looking to do this as well and want to make sure I do it right

Are you sure about that? If it does power off at some point then it definitely powers back on when you open the door. I can open the garage door or turn on the driving lights I have activated by a homelink button without the truck being on at anytime I've hit the button.

I'm pretty sure that the factory homelink in the visor is always hot. I know for a fact that I don't have to turn on the ignition for it to work, but can simply open the door to my truck and push the button and the garage door will open. Guess I need to sit in there for a few mins after parking in the garage and see how long I can still open the garage for.

Dunno about yours, but my homelink mirror is powered by the OE mirror wire and it is definitely only hot with the ignition; glass doesn’t dim, buttons don’t light up, or anything until you turn the key to ON. Even if I remote start my truck with FordPass, the mirror doesn’t have power until I turn the key. 100% lives and dies by the ignition. (2020 XLT 302a).
