I've got an email from Rostra confirming that 2.3 is compatible. They are testing with 3.0 now but won't have an answer till an official 3.0 update.

I’ve had less than an hour of road time with the update installed. Honestly I haven’t noticed anything different including speed. By the end of the week I should have a few more hours behind the wheel to see what if anything has changed.

Hmm. Got the replacement module and it is not working. Have another email in to support. This is getting really old.

To clarify this statement we mean that if you use an unofficial firmware you risk turning your very expensive Rostra interface into a paperweight. Best to use the auto-update feature or have Ford do it so that you can be certain you are using the correct firmware and avoid any headaches. V2.3 is certified compatible by Rostra and does not require any firmware updates to the Rostra interface as long as you have the 2.2 module.

Well, I hate to disagree, but take a look at what it is doing for me here. This is only part of the issue. I am running sync 2.3 with built-in nav. This auto-updated from Ford directly.
