Default Adding E-Locker?

First off, forgive my ignorance.

I spent a few of months in my search for a truck. Just over a month of it was after I'd made my choice on the F-150. Never owning a truck before I wasn't aware of all of the options and missed some in my search.

That said, when I added the towing module to my truck I noticed that there is another plug behind the "coin holder". Looking it up, it appears that's the normal spot for the e-locker or 4x4 switch goes.

So my question is the e-locker, is that actually a different axle or part? Or is that something that is all computer controlled so can be added and then activated like the trailer brake module, hill decent, etc..?
