Default Adding brake controller on 2020

I have a 7 way plug, but no controller. Does that mean the harness is present up to the cab? Can I add an OEM controller or do I need to do an aftermarket like a Tekonsha?

I suggest you take it to dealer, have them install the Ford brake controller and then have them program it.
This way its all done as it should be and its really not very expensive.

Why the f**k Ford doesn't include a dam brake controller on every truck with a tow hitch and pin connector is beyond me!!!

Yes you should be able to add it yourself as long as the plug is there behind the dash. You will have to enable it with Forscan. Everything I have read says to make sure you get a genuine Ford controller and not to get a knock off controller as a lot of people have had issues with them. There are videos on youtube showing how to add them.

Yep.

Buy the OEM ITBC from an online ford dealer and install yourself. Then program with forscan. It’s easy and will be a 3rd of the cost of the dealer doing it.

LOL. Easy. 💰 💰 💰

Besides, don’t “we” truck guys gripe about how most folks don’t use their trucks as trucks?

Ford remembers.

I understand them cheating out with the 53B receiver hitch option but the so-called heavy duty towing option $995 53A didn’t even come with the ITBC in 2019. IIRC, the new options available in 2024 are more limited but the tow/haul package includes the ITBC.

+1 for using a Ford part. Previous owner installed some aftermarket nonsense which resulted in a .8 amp draw on the battery when checked after being off for 45 minutes. When I pulled the fuse for the trailer brake controller, number 49 I think under the hood, the draw was well under .05 amps.

I just keep the fuse pulled unless I hook up a trailer with brakes.
