Question Adding 2.7L BLOCK HEATER

OEM Parts:
Heating unit (400w) F5RZ-6A051-B
Wire/cord JL3Z-6B018-R

Supposedly the heater does not come into contact with the coolant, Is this true? It's a cartridge style that screws in on drivers' side somewhere? Anybody added this? Any diagrams of the exact install location anywhere?
Any info is appreciated.

It screws into the exposed iron portion of the block. Not sure if it's in a coolant passage or not.

The Ford Workshop Manual for MY 2016 has you drain the coolant prior to removing the block heater. I assume this is true for all years.
