Default Adaptive Steering - why not?

I was a bit disappointed to not be able to find any reason why the F150 doesn't have Adaptive Steering - especially with the Max tow package.

There's a very good reason... it's something else to cost money and to break. Adaptive steering typically just tightens up or loosens the steering based on a set of conditions. What about your F150 makes you think adaptive steering is "needed"?

Just to make sure terminology is the same, what does adaptive steering mean to you?

If you mean variable rate steering force assistance based on speed of the vehicle and amount of steering input - then yes the newer F150's have that. (2015 and up that have the EPAS v 3 installed.)

If you mean the steering that will also bump the rear wheels in tight quarter turns then no, it seems nobody does this anymore. I sort of expect it to make a comeback one day with the advent of EPAS though - common issue with rear wheel steering was the length of the pipes and hydraulic issues on a vehicle.

^^ yep. They do have it.

If you are talking about it being an "option" like on the F250s, it's a totally different system.

I bought the F150 with max tow because of the technology behind the truck to make towing easier/safer.

Unless I'm reading into this wrong.. but this was something I thought I'd like to have while towing with my F150

No you don't, anyone that wants a certain amount of steering wheel travel to result in variable steering angle changes is insane and should not be taken seriously by anyone.

Wow, some real know-it-alls polluting this thread...

Have you guys driven a vehicle (e.g new super duty, Edge, etc.) with Fords new adaptive steering tech? I have and think it's fantastic.

OP, not sure why Ford has chosen not to include this in the F150 but would like to see it as an option in future models.

It may have something to do with the F150 having electronic steering and the F250+ still using hydraulic steering.

My wife's '17 Edge has it, and it is weird/amazing, LOL. It is really noticeable at low speeds. Almost all our traffic lights allow a U-Turn from a left turn lane. The adaptive steering makes the turn quicker and tighter.

Yes, I wish the truck had it.

Not sure that would be the issue, there are manufactures that have variable steering and electric steering racks. Most only work during slow speeds, like a parking lot.
