Big Rig shutters for aerodynamics my ***** they are there to keep that big engine happy in Montana in February at - 30' when it has the cooling capacity to survive in the desert in July at 120+
Don't over think this my 2.7 6speed runs pretty much at 195' summer and winter towing or empty shutters installed.

Question

Do, if you have to go into a dealer for some warranty work (could be anything engine related), are you going to re-install the shutters?

Don't forget... Ford engineers also spec'd the crappy shocks on these trucks too.

I'm not wasting my time reinstalling them for any warranty work.....what are the basis they deny me on ??? If they did, they'd have to explain "In Court So it's public record" why the shutters caused the failure, & exactly what the purpose of the shutters are. They don't want to open that can of worms.

If you guys REALLY think that Ford designed a trans & engine to run HOTTER because it's BETTER that way than you're crazy. They run it hotter to thin the fluid out, they spec thinner motor oil because it takes less power to pump around the engine, they switched to thinner diff fluid because it takes less power to rotate the ring & pinion through. All this adds up to better MPG, but with a slight protection loss. Adding the shutters was just another way of trying to squeeze more mpg out of the truck. Knowing it would run hotter, they had to find a fluid that was "stable" enough to handle the heat (funny thing is, the fluid type hasn't changed from the vehicles without shutters). They also increased the coolant pressure to 21psi to keep the coolant temps stable. So like I said, if you REALLY think an engineer designed something to run hotter because it was better, than I just can't get through to you. All this heat is nothing more than the by product of the shutters & Ford's quest for more MPG.

mpg yes, shutters are there to warm/cool engine as needed helps get engine to correct operating temps which helps mpg. keeps vehicle from having to run to rich to long in colder temps.

the shutters also help with creature comforts, helps heat and ac work faster . yes your ac needs a absolute temp so the high and low pressures can maintain good evaporation of humidity.

with that being said the shutters have a roll with fuel mapping - and other things that the trucks cpu looks for like coolant, oil 02, trans temps.

Actually I wouldn't put locks that don't freeze and properly tuned suspension in the category of "fancy creature comfort niceties and gizmos."

But I should know better to engage a know-it-all like yourself. Keep stoking that ego bud...

And by all means have the last word (because I know you will).

The shutters are their 90% for aerodynamics, 10% for cold weather start up so the engine doesn't run in open loop (rich as you say) saving a tiny bit of fuel. As far as having heat faster in the winter, after a couple minutes that big V8 will pump out all the heat you need with no problems. The ONLY shutters that make sense is on an Ecoboost in front of the intercooler to control condensation. Your AC statement is false....when you engage the AC, your shutters default to full open for max air flow through the condenser & Radiator & stay that way until.the AC is switched off. This is the reason all the guys on here that are saying "I just drove 2 hours in mid 90's heat & my trans temp never got above 195-198".....Thats because their shutters were defaulted full open from their AC running. "Waiting for somebody to tell me now they drove around in 95* weather for 2 hours with the AC off".

Maybe the engineers have stock in Fox and Billstein
