this video felt like watching p**n, skipping ahead multiple times trying to find the money shot, and realizing that the video stops before anything happens...
having said that, it's all good to try to "police" the road, but it's not worth the risk... I for one love when people try to prevent me from moving ahead, merging, for whatever reason they feel is right... I usually go around and end up even further ahead than I planned...

Motorcycles can safely utilize space a car cannot. Lane splitting and right passing is an effective means of decreasing traffic congestion...it allows motorcycles to bypass the congestion, and it doesn't set cars back one bit. Certain forms of this are perfectly legal here in California and it's done routinely in Europe where congestion can be much worse. It's the whole testosterone if I can't move forward nobody can attitude that's the problem. Lifted trucks already have a small ***** syndrome reputation, don't contribute to it.

What I tried to say is, I think the OP was in the wrong trying to police the road (even if he wasn't the only one). Why? 1) because it's none of his business if people decide to drive illegally on the shoulder, 2) trying to block them actually causes more problems (road rage, stupid'er moves, etc..) 3) you never know who you're messing with.
Second point was, I am sometimes the guy trying to drive around traffic if I think it's safe to do so (I probably wouldn't do the shoulder thing though, unless there was a turning lane ahead where I need to go). If and when people like the OP try to block me, I usually find a way around and don't even bother looking back.

Common situation here: road work 1/2 mile ahead, 1 lane closed. Drivers here will try to merge to the "open" lane as soon as possible, blocking that lane for all traffic behind, when that distance ahead could be used to "store" traffic and minimize the disruption behind. So yes, I go around and drive up to the barricade and merge swiftly in front of the driver who left a gap because he / she was too busy texting to realize that traffic had moved ahead.

For those arguing that this is the same as watching a crime / attack unfold and do nothing, no it isn't. Driving on the shoulder is not a matter of life or death. If someone gets in trouble on the street, I will play "police".

yep, I'm always amazed when I see motorcycles sitting in traffic here... in Paris, traffic can be at a dead stop and motorcycles will buzz between cars at 50mph! Better watch your mirrors!

no but having work in construction / engineering before, I know that traffic plans / work zones are designed to minimize disruption (as much as possible) during road work, ie. "stockpile" cars before the work zone in such a way that you dont f**k up half of downtown for a 1-lane closure.
Trying to merge half a mile before the actual work zone just creates even more traffic jams. Mind you, most people here can't even merge on an open highway, throw in a few amber lights and construction signs, and they're even more messed up...

A half mile is one thing... People love flooring it around you when you merge 3-4 car lengths before the barrier begins. I laugh when I don't let them merge.

^ agreed, 3-4 car lengths is reasonable...
as far as not letting "me" in, I'm French and I drive a truck, lol, you have no chance
