Default 6-speed?

Would Ford ever put a 6 speed tranny back into an F150 again? I like my 2018 5.0 but man this transmission is the worst. The 3-5 shift is the worst under heavy acceleration and the worst part is it’s sporadic. My 2017 6speed was smooth as butter everyday and I didn’t feel like I was driving a manual tranny. I believe Ford could issue an updated shifting strategy to fix the current 10 speed.

It saying yes or no but a trans tune could help as I have read on here a few times I’m waiting on my tuner to see if I can smooth out some a little especially low speed rolling, it kinda jerks jumping gears.

You might as well ask if the 2022 F-150 will offer 3 on the tree as an option. The answer is no.

Try running your truck in sport mode, which will force the use of all 10 speeds. I find the 10R much less clunky when it isn't skipping gears.

You also have the option of tuning the truck. The well-known tuners all seem to be able to do better with the 10R than Ford does.

Try resetting the adaptive learn tables and see what happens. I reset mine around 10k, the 3-5 delay is there but much more tolerable. Under heavy acceleration the truck is very smooth.

With FORScan under service procedures (the wrench on the left)
  • PCM - Clear Transmission Adaptive Tables
  • PCM - Reset All Adaptations
  • PCM- Module Reset
That will get you fully reset. It will drive strange for the first hundred miles or so after then settle out.

Some will say disconnecting the battery does the same but it does not as the adaptive learn tables are sored in NVM.

Ok, I’ll try that. Thanks for the info!
