The OP states how well he likes his 5.0, nothing more nothing less. Then the Egoboost crowd comes into a 5.0 thread and starts the how many pages will we see crap. The OP never said a word about a Egoboost.

That's what I thought at first as well, and I was dead set on the 5.0 for that reason. Until I started doing some serious reading and realized that the only point of failure that the ecoboost motors have that the 5.0 doesn't... is the turbo system. As a matter of fact, the 2.7 longblock is built tougher than the 5.0
It comes down to what do you want to deal with during the life of the truck. If you keep the truck only a few years, then the eco is the way to go because any failure will be covered by warranty and you get the fuel economy and power advantages over the 5.0
If you keep the truck way past the warranty, or it gets used everyday in a remote area where down time because of a failure is costly, then I would say the 5.0 is a better choice.
I chose the 2.7 because of the fuel economy advantages. I also know if the turbos go out, I will be the one repairing them out back under the big butternut tree. I can open the hood and practically reach down and touch them... taking them out is about 45 minutes per side. The rebuild kit is about $250 per side. Even if I spend a Saturday and $500 every 100,000 miles rebuilding the turbos, I will still be ahead.
Just the difference of 23mpg average on the 2.7 vs 18mpg average on the 5.0 saves me around $500 each year in fuel.

So your going to:
Drain the coolant
Deal with the possible stuck nuts on the turbo to manifold and down pipe connections?
Disconnect the oil supply and drain lines
Disconnect the coolant lines
Also, what kind you repairs would you be doing? changing the bushing/bearing? Balancing a new compressor wheel??
Come On Man!

Love my 5.0. Struggled to make the decision btw 5.0 and 3.5TT, ultimately picked the 5.0 and really like the way it drives. Would have been happy in a 3.5TT as well but plan on owning beyond the warranty and did not want the high repair cost and added complexity (was just what swayed my decision).
I don't race from stop lights, grew out of that a long time ago. 5.0 has plenty of torque for how I use it, very impressive power delivery. Jumps from 60 to 85 almost instantly for passing on 2 lane highways.
