5.0 paired with 3.31 rear axle
Hi All,
I would like to get some feed back from those that have the 5.0 paired with the 3.31 rear axle, RCSB 4x4. This truck would be my daily driver and my future plans are to purchase a small fishing boat with a package weigt of about 2000 pounds. Truck comes with 265/70-17 tires and I would probably get a little bit larger tires in the future.

A RCSB 5.0 will certainly have plenty of umph to tow a light trailer combo like that. If you have the option to upgrade (in other words, if you have the choice to choose) I'd recommend stepping up to the 3.55 e-locker. The new 10-spd tranny has plenty of OD gears--basically 10-9 and even 8 to an extent--to handle highway cruising and give decent mileage, and the lower ratio will give you a better tow rating if decide to upgrade your boat to something larger/heavier. The e-locker will be invaluable for hauling out on slick ramps!

Yuck. The 5.0 needs to rev to make power. 3.31s just make that harder. I would only opt for 3.73s on a 5.0.

I have a 15Screw with the 5.0 and 3.31 gears, I think it has plenty of power. Granted I have stock wheels/tires and seldom tow an when I do tow, it is usually under 3000 lbs. if you aren’t planning on towing heavy or getting large tires, you will be fine.
