4X4 or 4X2? Recapture cost?

Well, when Florida breaks off and starts sliding into the ocean or gulf, you will wish you had 4 wheel drive.
Seriously though, I was figuring a King Ranch with 2 wheel drive would be tough to sell. However the post by Lars99 makes me think I'm wrong (again).
I also think most people that purchase trucks really aren't too worried about MPG. Especially $60,000 trucks.
Good luck with your decision and enjoy your new truck.

I went through the same issue when ordering mine. 4x4 or not? It sounds like we have similar situations....
I live in SWFL, do not currently tow anything (maybe a boat one day), and don't really have a desire to take a truck off-road.
I ended up ordering a 4x4 (FX4 even). My reasons are my reasons...but after talking with a bunch of friends with trucks...here is what I landed on..
1- Resale
2- It was less about the money and more about not wanting to regret not having it later on
3- I don't want to take an awesome truck and do a bunch of aftermarket stuff to it like lifting it..with that said, It was pretty noticeable on the Lot how much higher the 4x4 sat compared to a 4x2. (at least side by side). again, being that i don't wanna lift it aftermarket...i figured i could take advantage of a little height with the 4x4.
These are just what helped me decide. your reasons will have to be your reasons. But i think if you can afford it...why not. Good luck, man.

OP never stated where they live so hard to answer the question IMO-boat or no boat...
A 2wd late model truck is not gonna sell/trade very easily or at a decent price anywhere near me other than maybe for an urban delivery truck or similar.
Also there is the fact that 4x4 can lead to life saving traction in rainy weather as featured on the Auto 4X4 ford setup- even in a warmer climate.

Get the 4wd...chances are you will regret it if you don't. Yes 3k is a lot of money but not that much considering its a 55k truck. After a few months you will forget your even paying for it.

my .02 input
UCF- First things first, love the screen name, I got my undergrad at UCF. Go Knights!
At the end of the day, between cost of the 4x4 upgrade, fuel and insurance costs, you won't recoup that money on the back end with resale, particularly in FL. Considering you dont "need it now" in opinion you might want to look at if the extra cost is worth the "piece of mind" it will bring you to put your mind at rest not worrying if you "may" need it in the future. Kinda like most people don't think an extended warranty is worth the financial costs, but worth the piece of mind it brings. As others have said, it's what is best for you, and unfortunately you're the only one who can answer that.
For what it's worth, I live in Orlando, FL as well and made the switch to 4x2 about 10 years ago with not a single day of regret. Happy enough that even older now without the financial constrains I still ordered another 4x2 this JAN. If your situation changes you may end up saying "woulda, shoulda, coulda" (and you will probably do that a half dozen times and change your order with other options), but once it arrives you will be happy with it. And 3 years in if you end up not needed it, you will be glad you didn't drop the extra 3-4k. So up to you to figure out if the extra cost is worth your piece of mind.
Side note, I'm anticipating my truck on 22 MAR, so being in Orlando if you can wait you are welcome to check out the options I got in person to see if they are for you. And if I bump into you at a UCF tailgate I'll buy you a beer. Good luck!
