Default 4wd electric shift

Is it normal for the electic shift to be somewhat slow on the f150? coming from my old 1ton diesel it (manual shift..) it seems like it sure takes a moment.

Any vehicle has to be within shift parameters before it will shift, or let you do it manually. When I had a manual-shift Jeep, sometimes I had to wait before I could move the lever. Now I move a switch, and sometimes wait a moment before the truck completes the shift. No difference.

The delay is the transfer case sync matching gear rpm so the the front drive does not grind gears trying to engage. On the fly.
This is why you must stop the vehicle, and shift to Neutral, foot on Brake, to access >Low Range< due to the huge difference in gear ratio there would be at vehicle speed if it were allowed.
Gotta think a bit more!
Good luck.
