The shifts in 4L are harsh enough that I put the transmission into manual mode. The same thing nearly went airborne over a water bar because it blitzed into second just before the rise.

 

With low range the 3rd gear provides a drive ratio comparable to 1st gear in high range. Need to adjust accordingly. I only use low range when rock crawling along at speeds under 5 MPH or pulling a stuck vehicle out of something. Even in high range I will start out in 2nd gear on slippery surfaces as there is a lot less chance of wheel spin.
