Default 4.2 display backup camera options

I just bought a 2017 XL with the 4.2 inch display and no backup camera.

Do the latch mounted cameras have a good view of the trailer hitch? If not has anyone adapted the old oval emblem camera to work?

Is there a way to tap into the 4.2 radio on a 2017 for a RCA camera input?

I would go with the tailgate camera. It’ll definitely show the hitch as it points down. The 4” screen might make it harder to make out.

Not sure if you also wanted to go with a larger screen?

The Video linked above seems to show exactly how to add the camera on your truck. I would follow that.

Thanks for the input. I decided to retain the existing radio and add the components to keep it as if it had come with the camera. I will have a little over $200 in parts using a generic replacement camera. I ordered a factory latch and tailgate harness which was about $150 of the parts needed.

I will have to follow the instructions I found here to wire the truck.

Here is the video I found for the install after the truck wiring modifications are done.
