May or may not be a big deal depending on how you use the truck, but the XLT typically has a higher payload capacity. If you will be loading up the truck with cargo and/or passengers while towing a trailer, you may really need the extra payload.

LED Headlights are a huge improvement and really should be a standard feature on all trim levels in 2019, but that's an argument for another day.

Dual Zone Climate has saved my marriage lol.
Can't agree enough on the dual zone climate. My wife and I are perfectly matched in almost every way except she is often cold and I tend towards being warmer. We just got back from a trip to Colorado, and our rental was an Audi Q5 with like, three whole zones of climate. Hers was set to 74 and mine was set to 68. So it was occasionally an issue when we took road trips in the XLT.

Well, an issue for me...

Also, if you want the center console, make sure the truck has one. Some XLTs have it, others don't.

Don't want to spend your money for you, but if you are going with a 502A, might as well take a look at the Platinum. A lot of nice included features that are options on the Lariat. Price will be similiar.

If you are going with the Sport, I assume you are not a fan of chrome. The Silver Platty will look great.

Also call Ford to try to generate a PCO if you do not already have one.

Have fun shopping.
ok, good points. The platinum as spec'd actually might come in a few bucks cheaper... what are the main upgrades to the platinum? The exterior styling, nicer leather...? Is that all, or are there other details too?

If you can afford it, get the 502A. I was looking at STX's and "splurged" on the 302A. For a second vehicle, I couldn't justify a $1000/mo payment. I added Anzo LED headlights, LED tails, and the 8" dash. I'm pretty happy with it. I do miss push button start and auto climate would be nice, but livable without. Couldn't care less about power release tail gate or folding mirrors. The remote start is awesome, I use it every time to get the A/C going. The range is incredible. But if I did it again, I would probably get a 502a if I found a deal.

I had a few King ranch and lariat trim level trucks in the past two generations. The lariat and higher trims offer more creature comfort features as the other replies have noted.

This time, I wanted the payload over the features. So it was XLT for me. What I wish the XLT had from a lariat was the 4A, led headlights and climate control. Maybe keyless ignition but not hung up about it either. But do I regret buying XLT trim level of truck? Heck no, I love the higher payload afforded on the XLT over the lariat and I'm in the small camp of people preferring cloth seats over the leather ones. I'm really not a fan of lariat leather from my prior experiences.

I enjoyed the cheaper price over a similar equipped lariat and have a larger payload.

Bahaha i knew you had an xlt even before i seen your sig. I had my alarm guy hook up a switch on my red cover so that when i lift it up it says "Missle Armed" i call it the panty dropper when i pick up my tinder dates.

You're still in new truck mode with a 1 month truck lol Ive seen this exact scenario many times and once the new truck phase wears away you could be regretting more.

You cant argue with a guy whos owned both.
I looked at a Lariat back in April, had the 2.7, identical gizmos I had on the FX2 truck I was going to trade in, had 18s(boo). Salesguy took me out on a test drive and I asked what the best they could do was and that I want 20in rims. He gave me the "well, you know we have to look at a few things and run your credit". And low balled me on my trade in - $3,000 less than what I had a kbb offer on. So, I don't have the spiffy start button!

The digi-cluster is cool. I'll have to get it eventually and have the turn by turn!

Go drive one and compare to the models you are looking at. No one "needs" the massaging seats in the Platinum, but they are sure nice.

Default XLT vs Lariat

Looks like you built my perfect F-150. I 'play' on the build site now and then just for dreams, and whether I would do crew cab, or super cab, I wouldn't be sure. No electric running boards on the super cab though. I would drop the moon roof . I had one on my '10 Escape, '12 Edge, '16 Santa Fe, '15 Explorer, and have on my '13 F-250. The number of times the roof was opened could be counted with a very small number. My present '18 XLT doesn't have a hole in the roof, and I don't miss it. Unless you are really into having a roof that can be opened, or looking at the sky through the glass, save $1300 and the possible leaking problems so many have. FX4 would be a real maybe for me unless you really do go off road. Other changes can be made post purchase to stiffen the suspension. There, you have my unsolicited opinion. Listening to everyone on the forum can make you decide about many things with a more clear head. I know that when I gave up my '15 Explorer Limited, I immediately realized that I really missed the auto climate, memory seats mirrors steering wheel, the keyless ignition, and the leather. You don't realize what you had until it is not there anymore, ex-wives excepted!

Can anyone help highlight the "little things" that are different between these two trims, such as build in garage door openers etc.... the things that aren't as apparent while looking online.

Here are the two builds:

1. XLT, Super Crew, 5-1/2' Box, 3.5L EcoBoost, 4x4
  • Ingot Silver
  • 302A
  • XLT Sport Appearance
  • Max Trailer Tow
  • FX4 Off-Road
  • XLT Power equip.
  • 20" painted wheels
  • tailgate step
  • twin panel moonroof
  • BLIS
  • LED Mirror spotlights
  • Second Row inflatable safety belts
  • nav
2. Lariat, Super Crew, 5-1/2' Box, 3.5L EcoBoost, 4x4
  • Ingot Silver
  • 502A
  • Lariat Sport Appearance
  • Max Trailer Tow
  • FX4 Off-Road
  • 20" painted wheels
  • Power running boards
  • tailgate step
  • twin panel moonroof
  • black leather
  • second row inflatable safety belts
  • nav
Thank you for the help everyone, I really appreciate it!

Good catch on the moonroof. It's a neat feature that I show off to people when they are in the truck, but I would have ordered my truck without it if I had ordered. Too many reports of failures and it adds weight in the worst location.

Well if you ever get into a lariat you'll realize its more than a spiffy start button
