Default The 3.5L EB is a rocket engine!

I cannot believe how quick my F150 with the 3.5L EB is. This thing is a rocket ship. It passes with ease. What is amazing to me is the acceleration across the power band. I expected it not to go from say 50-70 mph so effortlessly. Maybe that is more a tribute to the 6 speed tranny?

Here is what really gets me, the 2017 and beyond 3.5L EB with the 10 speed tranny is supposed to have more power and torque! How is that possible?? I can't even imagine how fast the 2017s with the 3.5l EB will be.

I wasn't a believer until I test drove one. Couldn't believe how quickly the truck moved.

2017 F150 with the 3.5L EB will of course be quicker in acceleration.

I was also really impressed. I didn't buy my truck for speed, but compared to my last F150 with the 5.4L V8, it's night and day difference.

No, it is not a rocket engine.

The stock calibration castrates the drivetrain with huge enrichment delays, early & mushy shifting and enormous upper-rpm power drop off, making it merely adequate.

~$400 does make it a rocket engine, though

Meh.

I am not racing this thing, I am merely talking about normal, everyday driving. Like needing to pass on a two laner, or punching it to get away from the rice-burner that is tailgating you, merging into expressway traffic, etc.

I can always pop it into Sport mode for some extra zip if necessary, and that doesn't void my warranty.

Meh.

Here's a flash for ye - Sport Mode does not add any extra power - it is merely a multiplier on throttle gain. Go deeper into the throttle in stock mode and you'll get the same result (not accounting fer the trans strategy changes - which still do not any power).

Warranty - meh as well .. don't care - statistics (not histrionics as is rampant on this site) are on my side, lol.

I use it to dispense with doodlers like you hogging the fast lane in their stock EB's. And who struggle to pull away from 5.0's and Hemis.

Cheers

I test drove both the 3.5 & 2.7 Ecoboosts at the drive event, and left less than impressed. I decided to keep my 13 5.0.

besides the added fuel system changes they really just made the internals stronger and rolled up boost.

Buying a vehicle has a lot of other factors to consider......Even if you feel these Ecoboosts are more agile, you maybe consider other important stuffs that's why you did not pull the trigger yet.
