Question 3.5 Eco to 2.7 Eco

Has anyone made the trade from a 3.5 to a 2.7. I have an opportunity and have searched for a similar thread, Just wanted someones opinion on the differences they noticed.

IMO if you're going from a Super Crew 3.5 to a 2.7 Super Cab and aren't towing real heavy performance is pretty close to each other!!Now if they're both Super Crews I would stick with the 3.5!!

No towing for either, I don't understand the (from a Super Crew 3.5 to a 2.7 Super Cab)? Should be very little difference because the box is shorter but bed is longer and with aluminum the weight difference should be close.

I went from a Gen 1 3.5 to the 2.7 . I dont tow but haul 350 pounds in tools around. It is better on fuel and has some pep as well.

I had a 2011 SC, 4x4, 3.5 and did tow with it, and it was good, i now have a 2018 SC 4x4, 2.7 and not towing much, but WOW! great motor, MPGs, and it is like a race car, i know two different body Wts, , you can really tell the 2018 is lighter. So if not towing over 6000 lbs, the 2.7 is great.

Went from 2.7 EB with 3.55 e lckr to 3.5 EB 3.55 elckr. Test drove a 18 2.7 with 10 spd 3.55 & 3.31 rear gears. If 2.7 has a 3.73 rear gear yes anything else noway, 2.7 noses over at about 65 mpg and then it's turbo and fuel mileage starts to drop dramatically. 3.73 rear gear gives the smaller engine more on the top end with the 10 speed.

Same as a wife swap. You continue vacuuming, keep the headaches and flushing money while she ages. You save a bit on her drinks!

From all I've learnt here, to each engine, 3.73 ratio will help a lot on the stop & go and when pulling/hauling, but will loose breath at higher rpms and higher speeds. On relaxed driving and in between performance 3.55 will be it. And for higher highway rpm range requirement the 3.31 will haver a better air ballon, while returning a bit better mpgs.

3.15 ratio is for the 2wd the corresponding 3.31 ratio for the 4wd and the gas saver for the f150.
These are overall facts. With 3.31s I have just as worse lifetime mileage driving on my city core than some guys towing around. But I would not switch the capabilities and confident driving my trucks give me for a gas sipper.

I ended up with the 2018 2.7l SCREW with 3.73 by accident/that’s what they had in the options I wanted.

Everytime I read more about it I’m glad I have the 3.73.
