2018 xlt standard to tow mirror

I have read so many different threads on here and ive become more overwhelemed and confused with every post lol.
i am looking for part numbers to change from standard mirrors to tow.

i have the 302A but have the 8 pin.

i need harness and module.and mirrors without blis or 360 camera.
i only have manual fold, power adjust, heat, and turn signal at the moment.

would like to have power adjust, puddle, spot, possibly power fold, and telescoping.

if anybody has the part numbers it would be greatly appreciated. Fairly certain i have the ambient sensor in the mirror

  • JL3Z-17696-BA is the kit you need to maintain what you have. It includes the two mirrors and adapter harnesses. I suppose it is possible to add all of that, but this kit maintains what you have and has capability to add flood and puddle lighting. Adding power fold and telescoping is a whole nuther level I was unable to tackle for technical and financial reasons.

jarrodj04 03-17-2019 03:02 PM

Awesome thank you. Did you have to change door switch or door harnesses?

Motorsports One 03-17-2019 03:06 PM

Make sure you check your build date, some '18 have the ambient air temperature sensor in the passenger side mirror and some don't.

I never could find out if adding these would enable the running lights on the tow mirrors (amber) when your headlights are on.

SSM 47721 - 2018 F-150 Excluding Raptor - Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor Located in Exterior Mirror - Built On Or After 26-Feb-2018

2018 F150 vehicles excluding Raptor built at Dearborn Truck Plant on or after 26-Feb-2018 and at Kansas City Assembly Plant on or after 10-Mar-2018 have the AAT sensor located in the right exterior mirror. The AAT sensor is serviced separately from the mirror assembly. If the vehicle is built on or after the dates listed above, do not add the sensor and harness behind the grill. If the sensor is missing from the right mirror the incorrect exterior mirror may have been installed after the vehicle was released from the assembly plant. Refer to Ambient AirTemperature Sensor GSB G0000178 for additional information. The Workshop Manual(WSM) and Wiring Diagram have been updated for non-Raptor vehicles for the early and late build AAT sensor locations. The sensor location on Raptor vehicles has not changed.

No. My power glass, heated glass and turn signals all worked with nothing more than the included 8-pin to 22-pin converter harness.

As pointed out by tmcolegr, "built at Dearborn Truck Plant on or after 26-Feb-2018 and at Kansas City Assembly Plant on or after 10-Mar-2018" have it in the mirror. Your truck's plant and build date should be on the sticker in your driver's door jamb.

kurt1305 03-17-2019 06:35 PM

So, isn't confirming the location of the ambient sensor as easy as looking under the right side mirror? If your sensor isn't in the mirror, why would adding a mirror with the sensor change anything?

You are correct, it is a little nub under the passenger side mirror which can be pulled out with pliers. If there isnt a sensor then it doesnt really matter what mirrors you use as long as you have the 8 pin adapter or find some aftermarket mirrors that are 8 pin. There have been some quality issues with aftermarket mirrors discussed on the forum.

To add all the accessories like power adjust, puddle, spot, power folding, and telescoping you would need lariat/platinum/limited tow mirrors, would have to change out door wiring harnesses, add some modules, and reprogram via forscan. Your looking at around $2k and spending a few hours doing it. For just power adjust, puddle, and spot it's about $1k with the mirrors, wiring harnesses, modules, and 2 hours to install.

2k for mirrors that dont have bliss or the camera? Last i had read it was about 450 a piece give or take on the mirrors
heat, power adjust glass, puddle, spot, possibly power telescope.
i know id need 22 pin harnesses (which i dont have a part number for) around 150 for the pair
2 new modules around 100-150 for the pair

and if i went manual fold and telescopic with the adapters it would be around 650 which was in the link above. I wouldn't need new modules from my understanding to change mirrors and retain all the stuff i already have.
would i need a new module for spot and puddle?

the extra $350 is for the door wiring harnesses, a module, and vent to get the puddle lights, spotlights, and marker lights less the power fold and power extend. I went this route. The mirrors were $650 but you only get the features the truck came with when the new tow mirrors can do so much more.

For powerfold and power extend, each mirror is $700 to $800 so about $1,500 total, then all the cost for wiring and modules

ClaKen13 03-18-2019 08:12 AM

If your truck is an 8 pin and the mirrors are a 22 pin you can buy an adapter harness on amazon. From that harness you can tap into a power source for the puddle lights and running lights

ryandoubleu, I have a 2019 with the standard mirrors and would like to upgrade to the tow mirrors. I have found the ones I want on eBay through Fairway Ford. JL3Z-17696-BA What would it take to make these work with my standard truck mirrors? I want all of the functions to work such as puddle lights, spot lights, running lights, turn signals, heat, and power adjustment as my last truck did. Could you give me part numbers and where you purchased all of the required pieces, such as the wiring harnesses and modules? My last truck had tow mirrors but the new one doesn’t. You are the first person I have seen mention getting all of these things working! Ps I am new to the forum and this is my first post! Thanks in advance!

Outer Panel FL3Z-1504339-DB
Processor - Lighting Control FU5Z-13C788-A
Switch Assembly FL3Z-13D730-EA
Wire Assembly - Jumper FL3Z-14631-F
Wire Assembly - Jumper FL3Z-14630-C

Word of Caution, the Wire assemblies listed are for earlier year F150's that did not have the ambient air temperature sensor wiring so I traced and pulled the wires from my original wiring harness and installed them on the new one. You could get a VIN for a 2019 Lariat trim or above and request the wiring harness part numbers from a dealer to avoid what I did. (I should have done this but I didnt realize my mistake until the CEL occured and my air conditioning wouldn't work.) Also, there is a module in the door which does not need to be replaced.

The outer door panel is the vent that pulls off with some force. There will be a wire behind it to connect to the new spotlight switches.

The processor lighting control goes under the driver's side dash. Nothing to take apart, just find the 2 connectors which go to it and then install onto bracket close to where the connectors were. Picture attached. For some reason the part number printed on the module is different than the part number you order.

After everything is installed you will need make some software changes via forscan. Member tmcolegr has a pdf guide with these changes. This thread https://www.f150forum.com/f118/retro...9210/index127/ on post 1267. The forscan changes you need are on page 7 and 10 of PDF.

Post to your question on post above. Also, make sure you provide your vin to who your ordering it from so they get the ones with the AAT sensor in the passenger side mirror.

thank you very much, I will have to take a look around at some lariats and see what I can come up with. Out of the 3-5 dealers I have been too I haven’t found more than one lariat total. Very frustrating because that was my original plan! I will take a look thanks again! I will report back whenever I get the answer.

It can also be a king ranch, platinum, or limited

Just checked prices with my local dealer looks like everything is available in 3 days and still less than online with the added shipping. The only thing is the core charge which I don't have one to return.

Hello
I know this thread is a little old but basically I followed it and am not seeing the spotlight come on. I ordered tow mirrors JL3Z17696BA from ford which came with the 8-22 pin adapter. Got the new bezel, spotlight switches and control module and then made the forscan changes. What I am seeing is that the switches do glow with ON when you hit them but I don't see any actual light coming from the mirrors. I did this in the daytime so I am wondering if perhaps they only come on at night. The only difference I see in the Control module has the same part number but different date on it.

I just had to replace a driver's mirror 2019 XLT and they did not want the core.

dmatthews6 12-23-2023 01:31 PM

After reading it again I think i need to get door wiring harnesses. I incorrectly assumed the wiring mentioned above were the adapters that come with the mirrors(8-22) . I think I need to find lariat door wiring harnesses for 2018 without power fold, extend, bliss, and camera.
