2018 Wifi Hotspot Issues / Ford Pass
#122
I agree...except it's not like the price of these trucks is cheap anymore...we've all paid in excess of $2k for this tech, so its expected to be operational. True, things take time, but information can be released to avoid the run around, which is half of the problem. We call and get a canned response. Sure, its not a safety issue, but not all re-calls are safety issues. Some can be faulty parts etc. There is also TSB's that can be issued with a fix in lieu if a re-call. More than likely Ford may not have an answer yet, but I cant imagine after 3 weeks that they don't have some sort of an idea.
I personally think the best route is going to end up through the dealer, whom can contact their dealer service manager in that region, and also the field service engineers.
Here is another issue, and I have no clue if its related... Do any of you have audio cell noise coming through the speaker when you are on a bluetooth call? Ive noticed that I'm hearing the cell radio noise slightly in the background.

I agree too, the price of these trucks is high, and everything should be working. The problem though is with Ford. Been there, done that, know the pain. I just don't see that it would be recall worthy since its an accessory and has no function in the basic operabilty and safety of the vehicle. It does warrant a TSB or SSM though, and should be fixed, but Ford CSR won't be much help. It has to be done through the dealers at this point, when Ford gets enough pressure from their dealers, things happen much faster.
Personally though I would rather NOT have a device that can be hacked in my vehicles, bad enough they can be easily stolen with the proper tools, which today can be a little black box that code scans. Once a thief has the code, they can pretty much do what they want with it. I love PBS, but it is one less thing a thief would need to crack to steal it, no key to insert and turn, or lock to break. A modem can also be easily hacked if someone really wanted to, and with how integrated everything is in the truck, rather the peace of mind not having it, than whatever it would be used for.

An update, I tweeted Ford and got a response to email them. I have been talking to one of their Social Media folks, and she claims to be able together answers... Lets see what happens.

I just made an appointment with my dealer for Monday. I know a few of you have taken your vehicles back to the dealer with no success at all. Explaining the problem and running my Vin the dealer found nothing reported about WiFi hotspot or FordPass issues. Nevertheless, they want to check it out.

This is very good to know. What I’ve said the whole time, a modem that can’t connect to server can’t be fixed wirelessly and we need to go in to a dealership that has orders/information from head quarters or else none of them know what’s going on. Thanks God! I enjoyed the WiFi for a couple weeks I had it.
