Default 2018 PowerStroke Diesel F150

I'm considering ordering a new truck...Something like this:

2018 F150 2WD SuperCrew
Magma Red
Lariat Sport 502A
3.0L PowerStroke Diesel
3.55 Electronic Lock Rear Axle (Or similar)
Tow Package (Is Max-Tow an option?)
Trailer Brake Controller (if not included)
36 Gallon Fuel Tank
Tow Mirrors

I've never special ordered a truck before - Is there anything I should know?

double and triple check all options are on the paperwork before you walk out after ordering.

Ask your dealer for the 2018 F-150 eSourceBook Spec printout. Has all the specs for every option and package.

Also make sure you really understand the 2018 F-150 Order guide. http://diehlford.com/images/pdf/orde...ides/f-150.pdf Lists every available option and package you can order and what you CAN'T. It's what I used to build my 2018 F150 HDPP truck, which has a lot of can'ts because of the HDPP.

Can a new 2018 f150 even be ordered yet with the diesel?
I'm in Canada and that's not an option as of yet that I have seen.

1. Make sure price is negotiated ahead of time. Just because you special ordered doesn't mean you can't get a good deal. I special ordered a F150 for invoice-rebates-3% holdback-2% extra+$195 processing fee. Make sure you know what rebates are available to you. Make sure you try to get a personal incentive from Ford......usually around $750 more off.
2. Make sure the order confirmation form has an unique order number and not 8888 (or something similar). 8888 just means they built it for you so you could look at it. I waited 8 weeks just to find out the order was never placed. Now I always get the final order confirmation sheet.
3. Build the vehicle on Ford's website and see what options are available.
4. Carefully look through all the options and make sure you do in fact want them. I always make sure to get the "tow package", but on my build the 302A package already has the hitch and electrical connection and I have no interest in the trailer backup assist. So the $1000 tow package is worthless to me. I would not have known this if I didn't read what each package has in it. Also be aware of the discounts available on the build site. You might find that adding an option actually costs nothing or less than nothing.
5. You can track your special order on Ford's COTUS website.

be careful on omitting things you want... having trailer wiring and a reciever hitch is not the extent of the tow package... it also includes things like an upgraded transmission cooler

Good luck. I really wish they offered the diesel in a lower trim than Lariat. I have a lariat now but have decided next time around I can do without it.

Huh, I see you can't get the HDPP either. Guess this is not a real towing truck. Strictly for CAFE numbers. What a waste.

Yes there is: I recommend that everyone special order their new truck and pay and get exactly what they want. The other side of that is don't pay for what you don't want. It is a significant expense. When I ordered I would ask them to agree to 1000 below invoice or I would go elsewhere. Do the build and price at Ford.com.
