As of a couple months back. Auto Zone, Pep Boys, Napa, O’Rielys don’t carry the oil drain plugs yet. I had to go through the dealer.

Thanks for all the replies. I checked with my local Ford dealer and he didn't have any in stock. I checked Napa, Auto Zone and Advance Auto and none of them had it in stock. I even checked to see if they had a 2017 plug hoping that it would match and got nothing!
I've attached a pic of the tab that broke off.

When I first changed the oil on my 2017 one of the tabs broke off. At that time the plugs weren't available, so I drove with one tab until the next oil change. By then the plugs had arrived and I bought two, one to replace the broken plug and a another as a spare. So one good tab will hold the plug in place, just make sure that the good tab is secure behind the catch on the oil pan. I also checked the plug often, but it stayed in place with no problems. I wouldn't do it again for that many miles, but it did work OK.

Reminds me. I need to get one. Broke a tab last oil change....I drilled a 1/8 hole in the end / thumb tab of the plug and put a zip tie thru it and the tab sticking off the oil pan.

Why does Ford use a cheap piece of crap plastic drain plug??? What happened to old days when cars used Metal bolts to hold important things in place. For heavens sake they are glue doors on nowadays, what the hell has this world become? It is al about grinding every last penny of profit for sake of quality. What a disgrace

That sad thing is the screw us for $50-$60K to buy a new truck these days. 15 Years ago trucks comparably equipped were half the price.

Before I bought the 18 I read these posts and got a spare plug from the dealer. Buy one and keep a spare. If it fails use the new one and buy another, they are cheap. Ford really messed the design of this IMO. I see at some point it was a socket tool then they changed it. They really need to make the removal tool what everyone has access to not something they have created.

You don't need to try to lift the tabs to turn the plug.
