2018 F150 5.0L - Excessive Oil Consumption ***TSB-2058***
#21
FORD keeps insisting the knock is normal, even though not all 5.0's do it, but they've never come out and actually said what's causing the knocking. I'm no mechanic but it seems to me if it's normal ALL 5.0's would make the same noise....or am I wrong ?

Mine used 4.5 qts during my last oil change interval (5,000 miles) and is currently going thru the oil consumption test with my dealership. Interesting that they DO NOT want me checking the oil on my own and that doing so may void the test.....I've followed their rules and over the past 1000 miles they say it hasn't used a drop......Hmmmm.

I wonder if the new long blocks will take care of the rattles and knocks? A long block would come assembled with oil pump, timing gear system as well as cylinder heads installed. Could it all be related? Hmm!

I have checked my oil after letting the truck sit over night and it reads low. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes and the dip stick reads normal. I always heard to let the engine be cold. Am I missing something?

I’ve heard of all the guys with engine rattles and noises but mine has never had any of them. After seeing this TSB I figured I better go check my oil, and guess what it’s not even on the dipstick. I have 6,099 miles on the truck. This really sucks!!!
I don’t want a brand new truck that’s already had the engine changed, but I guess there’s no buyback procedure if it can be fixed. 😞
