I had this same issue, I only used the filter since a local store had a promotion. When you buy the oil you get a free filter. I contacted K&N and they said they were aware of the issue.........And asked if they could send me a replacement. I asked them if it was from a redesigned filter or just another filter that could have the same issue? I was told they didnt have a fix for it yet......Motorcraft it is.

Were they going to send you a Motorcraft, since they didn't have a fix for theirs?

I wonder if they will pay for an engine, if it runs dry from their oil filter developing a leak?

Please stop spreading myths. You clearly do not know a thing about filtration. Not only does the K&N filter have a higher filtration efficiency at 20 microns, but it also has a higher dirt trapping capacity, too.

How can oil "flow" better through a filter that has the same size threaded hole as every oil filter designed to mount to the engine??? a higher filtration efficiency also flow more???

If the threaded hole was a factor in any of this, why not just purchase the cheapest oil filter?

Oil can flow better or worse determined by the micron size of the filter media, capacity of the filter and the arrangement of the filter media inside of the filter, assuming oil pressure is a constant.

There is no good reason to ever never ever stray from a Motorcraft oil filter for a ford product, not for the smallest clown car or the biggest diesel.

Simple. The explanation is below.

Sorry but that is hogwash. Motorcraft filters are designed by Ford for Ford and made by the best oil filter company around(which more than likely also manufactures the high priced snakeoil, er knn filters). But if you want to p!$$ your money away on them, go right ahead.

You can only pass so much oil through a given hole (which was my original intention to post, apologies for confusion. and what I really should have noted, is how can a filter that blocks more particles also flow better?). And if there is a restriction, they have a calibrated bypass valve in the filter(on most Fords) that opens allowing proper oil flow (it operates off of differential pressure).

Hogwash, huh??? Who makes motorcraft filters? Entertain me with your knowledge. I've been in the industry and am well aware of who their OEM's are, so please, entertain me. I'll give you a hint, I've been through their trainings

Look around... you'll see people who have posted pics of factory original FoMoCo oil filters made by champion labs (the same company that makes K&N filters).

MANN+HUMMEL, who makes WIX, Purolator, which the Motorcraft line is made on to Ford Specs, Bosch, and several others. I also know for a fact that Mobil 1 filters are made on the same line, with the same materials as those made for John Deere X500 garden tractors.

Wrong. (see attachment).

Also... in regards to Mann+Hummel... Mann+Hummel owns them: Purolator and Wix... they still operate as separate manufacturers.
