2018 BLIS coverage to 2016?

2018 BLIS coverage to 2016?
Anyone have any thoughts of being able to modify a 2016 with BLIS to be able to cover a trailer similar to what is available on the 2018?
Just today, I was starting to back out of a diagonal parking spot when the BLIS on my truck alarmed for a vehicle 1/2 away. Can BLIS be set not to disable when hooked to a travel trailer and will that provide coverage?
I'm sure others have at least given the idea thought at least once.
